沖縄市は極めてユニークな地域性を有しています。中国、フィリピン、インド、タイ、ヨーロッパ等諸外国から来た沢山の人々が沖縄市民と共に隣り合わせに生活しています。さらに周囲には多くのアメリカ人が住む軍事基地もあります。
私達沖縄市民は、この地域性を活用することによって、これら諸外国の人々との相互理解を促進することが出来ます。ここに沖縄市国際交流協会が活動を開始した理由があります。
沖縄市国際交流協会(OCIA)は、1990年7月29日に設立されました。その活動は今では沖縄市が統括する国際交流活動の中核になるまでに育ってきました。活動内容には、国際交流フェスティバル(2010年度で20年回目を数えます)、ピクニック、料理教室、文化交流会、コンサート、語学教室、そして沖縄市民とこれらの国の人々が共同で企画し実施しているボランティア活動等があります。

■July 29, 1990 Okinawa City International Association establishment
The community of Okinawa city is very unique. There are many people from
China,Philipines, India, Thai,Europe,and other foreign countries living
as neighbors with the Okinawan citizens. Also, there is a military base
in our neighbor, where many Americans live. We can use this uniqueness
to help grow the understanding between Okinawans and people from other
countries. That is why the Okinawa City International Association started
it's activities.
The
Okinawa City International Association (OCIA) was founded in July 29, 1990. It's
activities grew up to become the core of the international activities that
Okinawa city has organized.
There are International festivals(counted the 20th in year this year),
picnics, food festivals, cultural exchange workshops, concerts, language
classes and other volunteer activities which both Okinawans and people
from foreign countries have planned and worked hand in hand.
