Kumamoto Castle

Kumamoto Castle, which has been called the Castle of Ginkgo Trees, is one of the three most famous castles in Japan.

Designed by Lord Kato Kiyomasa, the castle was completed in 1607.

The 98 hectare arounds of the castle contain two main towers.

For almost fifty days Kumamoto Castle was under seige and though most of the castle buldings were destroyed.

Reconstruction was begun in 1960 by Kumamoto City.
