Kongobuji Temple at Mt. Koya as the World Heritage

In the year 804, Kobo Daishi(Kukai) crossed the sea to China in seach of Buddhist teachings.

After he got the fulll transmission of a lineage of Buddhism, he returned to Japan in 806.

After he got permission from the inperial Court to build a monastic complex at Mt.Koya in 816,
he lived and taught at Mt. Koya many years until he enterede into eternal meditation in 835.

Mt. Koya is a 900-meter high platear surrounded by eight peaks.
